How the General Authorities Eat Reese's PB Cups

Maybe a little irreverent, but I'm sure the General Authories might get a little kick out of it... :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDPi4buduY0&feature=youtu.be

official birth photo of Santiago

Here's the picture that was taken at the hospital of Santiago.  He has a serious look on his face a lot, which is the same look Heather had as a baby.

Family Pictures

It's pretty much impossible to get a family picture with all of us looking at the camera and smiling normally. I had no idea (until tonight when I saw the photos from our shoot earlier this week) that the boys were mugging like they apparently were for most of our family pictures. All in all, this may be my favorite.

August 3, 2013

Jenna, Amie and I picked up Grandpa and Grandma Buttars on Fri. and went to their cabin in Wyo. for the weekend.  I haven't been there since we were at the Buttars reunion about 20 years ago.  It really hasn't changed much since then.  I told Jenna I felt like I was back in a time capsule....the same furnishings and things on the wall and dishes, bedspreads, etc.  Except the trees have grown up more outside and they've done some improvements on the grounds like put in a nice gravel driveway.  Tom opted not to go up with us....he said he can't think of anything he'd like to do less than go up to the cabin and have to use the outhouse,,,,,which didn't smell that bad and didn't have any bugs inside (well maybe a couple).  On Fri. night Grandpa cooked us a dutch oven chicken and potatoes dinner.  Yummy.  Then we played card games and ate candy until way late.  On Sat. morning we had leisurely breakfast outside and sat on the porch for a while, then drove up to Jackson Hole.  Along the way we stopped to watch the people floating down the river.  Amie had wanted to do that but the river was pretty low so we thought it might be too rough.  Decided it wasn't while we were watching them but by then we didn't have our swim suits on so we'll have to do that another time.  When we got to Jackson we drove through the National Park to see the Tetons (saw many buffalo along the way) and up to where there was a massive mountain slide in 1925 that dammed up the river to make a lake and threw dirt 300 feet up the other side to form another mountain.  Then we drove into Jackson Hole and walked around window shopping for an hour and saw a (bad) fake shootout.  Then we went to the Bar J for a cowboy supper (beef, cornbread, beans, applesauce and spice cake) which was so so, but then they had 5 cowboys come out and play and sing and they were really good and sang for 1 1/2 hours without stopping.  It was a fun evening.  Sun. we got up and drove home.  All had a good time.

Ella's (finally) walking!

She's been more than capable for a while, but yesterday, she decided that she wants to walk. It's so fun to see!

Bee's Baseball

One day, randomly, Tom said “Maybe we should get tickets and go to a Bee’s baseball game”.  The man who hates baseball says that!!  So we got tickets for Amie, Jenna and us and went to a game. (We invnited Matt to come and bring a date but he said he hates baseball and any girl that would want to go he wouldn't want to date!)

It was a beautiful ball field and a nice night and even though they weren’t making many runs (until after we left at the middle of the 7th) we had fun talking and just enjoying the evening.  Plus it was $1 hot dog night – eat your heart out Heather

Baby Suarez!

Ultrasounds these days are pretty incredible!  I'm lucky b/c here in Germany they do one at every single visit.   (I often find myself wondering what an appointment would be like otherwise, because the only other thing that happens at mine is the doctor says, "Has everything been okay?  You feel okay?"  I say "yes", and then we look at the baby for 20 minutes.)

Below is a picture of the baby, sleeping with his arm up next to his face.  Guess its getting a bit more crowded.  I'll also try to upload a video, where you can see him yawn at the end.  It might not work, though.

Repentance

Last night our FHE lesson was on repentance. We started with a neat object lesson that simplified the concept that we all make mistakes in our lives, but we can say sorry, pray to Heavenly Father to forgive us, and move on. For some reason, Jake and Andrew were especially into to lesson last night, and Andrew especially wanted to finish all my sentences for me. During the lesson, I told the boys that we all come to the earth clean and perfect, but we all make mistakes. I asked what we can say when we make a mistake and Andrew exclaimed that we say "Oops!" I said that was a good thing to say when we make a mistake and asked what we can say after "Oops!" He responded enthusiastically that we say, "Oh, man!"  :)

Cute Ella!

Doug coming home from work puts Ella in such a fun, happy mood! We tried this same thing to get her to laugh the next day and it didn't work...

Observations from life 20 yrs ago

Laying on the couch sick has given me plenty of time to watch old family videos.  Here are a few of my observations and questions:

Dad's favorite on-camera phrase is "turn that thing off'!"

Mom was very diligent in recording our annual irreverent reenactment of the nativity.  And Doug was always the donkey.

Speaking of Doug, I really hope he had multiple breggy oil tshirts.  He wore it on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for multiple years, and every other recording in between.

Mom, when you let Courtney 'clean out the dishwasher' as a baby and throw dishes all over the floor, did you then re-wash them?  Or did you consider them clean still??

Amie opened a headband for her birthday.  Jenna said 'its what you've always wanted.'  Amie made clear it was NOT what she'd always wanted.  'Why would you think I wanted this? I never said that. I didn't want it.' Than she fake smiles and says 'thanks!'

Courtney was moms favorite child to video tape. Unless amie was mad, then I think she was moms favorite to video tape.

Why did I have a bowl cut in 1991? Whose idea was that??

Amie has always thought she had a 'hot body', as evidenced by the hot pink spandex shorts she wore around the house.

90's neon was not good to any of us.
