Jenna, Amie and I picked up Grandpa and Grandma Buttars on Fri. and went to their cabin in Wyo. for the weekend. I haven't been there since we were at the
Buttars reunion about 20 years ago. It really hasn't changed much since
then. I told Jenna I felt like I was back in a time capsule....the same
furnishings and things on the wall and dishes, bedspreads, etc. Except
the trees have grown up more outside and they've done some improvements on the
grounds like put in a nice gravel driveway. Tom opted not to go up with
us....he said he can't think of anything he'd like to do less than go up to the
cabin and have to use the outhouse,,,,,which didn't smell that bad and didn't
have any bugs inside (well maybe a couple). On Fri. night Grandpa cooked
us a dutch oven chicken and potatoes dinner. Yummy. Then we played
card games and ate candy until way late. On Sat. morning we had leisurely
breakfast outside and sat on the porch for a while, then drove up to Jackson
Hole. Along the way we stopped to watch the people floating down the
river. Amie had wanted to do that but the river was pretty low so we
thought it might be too rough. Decided it wasn't while we were watching
them but by then we didn't have our swim suits on so we'll have to do that
another time. When we got to Jackson we drove through the National Park
to see the Tetons (saw many buffalo along the way) and up to where there was a
massive mountain slide in 1925 that dammed up the river to make a lake and
threw dirt 300 feet up the other side to form another mountain. Then we
drove into Jackson Hole and walked around window shopping for an hour and saw a
(bad) fake shootout. Then we went to the Bar J for a cowboy supper (beef,
cornbread, beans, applesauce and spice cake) which was so so, but then they had
5 cowboys come out and play and sing and they were really good and sang for 1 1/2 hours without stopping. It was a fun evening. Sun. we got up and drove home. All had a good time.
